The introduction to the album presents one of the two main themes of the set of music. “Awaken” is a more concise version of “New Beginnings” and it’s first in the track list because of the mood it conveys right from the first note. From the first notes of the song it’s clear that this is a more orchestral offering and the rest of the album follows suit. Amari Ansari is an amazing woodwinds player and also happens to be one of my closest friends, and I was thrilled when he said he was open to stacking four flutes for this arrangement. The always inspiring pianist Shea Pierre also offered his keyboard stylings to this instrumental which add a psychedelic depth to the sound that I just love.
