This song actually was born from a completely free-form improvisation. I picked up my guitar one evening and the whole piece sprang forth without any pre-mediation. After I laid the guitar track down, I had my good friends and talented musicians Steve Lands and Fanny Freya record extra parts (trumpet+synthesizer and strings, respectively) to give the piece more emotional weight. Steve arranged the melody for Fanny to perform on violin, and she sent back over 15 string parts that she had come up with using violin, cello and viola! I am thrilled with how it came out, and I called it “Sink In” because of the feeling I get listening back to it as if I were sinking to the bottom of an ocean. The clarion trumpet call at the end is finding peace in the depths.
